Built by an Installer.
Designed to Solve a Real Problem.
The story behind the SPT Wire Caddy and how it went from a simple idea to
a product built for the Christmas light industry.
Meet the Creator
Michael Carey
has always been an inventor and problem solver at heart.
He naturally looks for ways to improve whatever he is working on β finding inefficiencies, identifying problems, and creating practical solutions that make things work better in the real world.
Over the years, he has come up with different tools, ideas, and product concepts. But it wasnβt until he entered the Christmas light industry that one idea truly stood out.
TheΒ ProblemΒ That
Started It All
While working in the Christmas light industry, one issue kept showing up on every job β the ground setup.
Wire spools, plugs, and tools were often spread out, difficult to manage, and inconsistent from one job to the next.
It slowed things down, created unnecessary frustration, and made it harder to keep installs clean and organized.
That problem led to the idea of the SPT Wire Caddy.
THE EVOLUTION
From a Simple Idea to a Final Product
YEAR 1
The first version was built out of wood and designed to hold only a wire spool.
YEAR 2
A second version added storage for plugs, but the spool was still positioned vertically, which
created new challenges during use.
YEARΒ 3
The design evolved to lay the spool flat and introduced a spinning base, improving how the wire fed and rewound. At this stage, each unit was still built by hand in the shop.
YEARΒ 4
This led to Version 4 β the product you see today. This version solved the problem of bigger spools and being able to have a system for production.
A flat-laying spool, built-in spinning base, organized top storage, and a stackable design that can now be manufactured at a higher quality and more affordable cost.
This version no longer depends on being built one at a time by hand β making it possible to bring the product to the industry at scale.
Built for One Crew. Wanted by Many.
As Michael began sharing the SPT Wire Caddy with others in the industry, the response was immediate.
Friends, installers, and business owners started reaching out with interest β many saying they would want more than one for their crews.
Others began asking when it would be available.
That early feedback helped confirm the need for a product like this and pushed the process forward to bring it to market.
Moving Forward
The Goal Moving Forward
The goal is simple β to improve how installs are done across the Christmas light industry.
By creating tools that help crews stay organized and consistent, the SPT Wire Caddy is designed to make jobsite setups cleaner, easier to manage, and more repeatable.
The long-term vision is for it to become a standard piece of equipment β something every installer has on their truck and uses on every job.
A Thank You
To everyone who has supported the product so far β through feedback, messages, and encouragement β thank you.
That support has played a big role in turning this idea into a real product and bringing it to life.
